The restricted list (REACH Annex XVII) groups substances whose use is restricted in the European Economic Area.
Restrictions are a regulatory instrument designed to protect human health and the environment against the risks associated with chemical substances. Generally speaking, they involve limiting or prohibiting the manufacture, marketing or use of a substance when it presents a proven danger (toxicity, persistence in the environment, effects on reproduction, etc.) or a risk deemed unacceptable in relation to its uses.
Restricted substances are listed in Annex XVII of the REACH regulation.
Impact on companies
Inclusion of a substance in Annex XVII means that companies must comply with strict conditions concerning its manufacture, marketing or use. In some cases, the restriction imposes specific requirements, such as the implementation of technical measures, targeted use restrictions or labeling obligations. It is therefore essential for organizations to regularly monitor updates to Annex XVII in order to anticipate potential impacts on their products, processes or supply chains, and to ensure regulatory compliance.
