On April 24, 2024, Health Canada announced a major regulatory update for cosmetics, aligning allergen labeling requirements with those of the European Union.
Manufacturers and distributors are now required to disclose the presence of allergens in their products according to the same list and thresholds as in Europe:
For some allergens, the regulation uses a “grouping name,” meaning a single ingredient name can represent multiple related chemical substances. In such cases, the total combined concentration of all substances within the group is used to determine if the labeling threshold is exceeded.
