Using a service provider for my REACH Registration: the advantages

He knows exactly what tests must be conducted

Each registration dossier generates a number of tests to be performed in order to better identify a given substance. The two major tests families are:

  • Analytical tests; they make it possible to characterise the substance from a physicochemical point of view (NMR, UV, XRD, etc.)
  • Toxicological and ecotoxicological tests, in the case of submission as Lead Registrant. These make it possible to evaluate the impact of the substance on human health and the environment. They are detailed in Annexes VII, VIII, IX and X of the REACH Regulation.

But, depending on the nature of the substance, not all tests are relevant and sometimes it may be necessary to choose a more suitable protocol than another for a substance. To do this, one must have solid knowledge in both chemistry and toxicology; knowledge that a service provider has.

Outsourcing the choice of tests allows you to rely on the informed choice of a professional.

He has a network of experienced laboratories

In order to be able to meet regulatory deadlines, it is absolutely essential to work with a network of expert and qualified laboratories.

Indeed, the availability of laboratories is a crucial issue since it has an impact on whether you meet the regulatory registration deadlines or not. Working with several partner laboratories makes it possible to better distribute the tests to be performed and to anticipate possible overloads. Moreover, working partnerships with laboratories allow you to benefit from preferential timelines and competitive costs.

He defends your interests and relieves you from the SIEF management

The service provider respects the confidentiality of your data as an intermediary between your company and the other SIEF members. He can:

  • Buy the Letter of Access (LoA) and validate the data sharing terms and associated test costs on your behalf.
  • Manage SIEF newcomers, negotiate SIEF contract terms and LoA billing for SIEF members if you choose to register as a Lead Registrant

It can also help you in case of conflict management. Experience has shown that some Lead Registrants may be difficult to contact by Member Registrants who want to join a SIEF. The service provider can therefore "absorb" the management problems that may arise during the data collection and administrative process.

This "external" intermediary role played by the service provider is not only beneficial for conflict management but also relieves you from the inevitable and potentially time-consuming administrative procedures.

He is trained to use the platforms necessary for registration

The management of the SIEF and the submission of the dossier are carried out via the REACH-IT platform developed by ECHA. The final data compilation of the Registration dossier is carried out thanks to the IUCLID 6 software.

The use of these two computer tools requires specific training. There are of course tutorials, courses, webinars to train you on this subject but nothing replaces the efficiency gained by the experience of handling these two tools.

A service provider saves time on data compilation, online submission, administration of the REACH-IT account as well as training time for these IT tools.
