On this Tuesday 8th October, EcoMundo intervened at a training day organised by the Swiss SCC, the Swiss society of cosmetic chemists. Our expert’s intervention concerned borderline products.

The Swiss SCC and EcoMundo’s intervention

The Swiss SCC, society of cosmetic chemists, organised this Tuesday 8th October 2019 a training day on the theme “Evolving cosmetics: current reality and future perceptions”. On this day, our expert Sylvain de Backer discussed borderline products with the cosmetics regulation in Europe, and more specifically the case of medical devices.

The public was very receptive and interested in the subject and a lot of questions were asked, in particular on solar product-related medical devices. A deep interest for the subject exists in the cosmetic industry and it will become a very important topic next year. Even more so as the first deadlines on medical devices are getting closer and closer.

Cosmetics: borderline products and medical devices

The medical device regulation, from 2017, will start applying in the European Union in May 2020. It brings along changes, when compared to the directives it replaces, in terms of scope, classification, and monitoring. With these evolutions, companies will need to be cautious with their product’s classification, as they can now be considered “medical devices with a non-medical purpose” and still come under the scope of the regulation.

For more information on medical devices, do not hesitate to read our article on the subject.

To all that must be added borderline products with other regulations, for example the Biocidal Products Regulation (with the example of lice shampoos).

EcoMundo guides and advises you during all the marketing process of your products, and instructs you on the applicable regulation.
